Development of a reversible fluorescent probe for reactive sulfur species, sulfane sulfur, and its biological application.
We report a reversible off/on fluorescent probe for monitoring concentration changes of sulfane sulfur by utilizing the unique ability of sulfane sulfur to bind reversibly to other sulfur atoms and the intramolecular spirocyclization reaction of xanthene dyes. It reversibly visualized sulfane sulfur in living A549 cells and primary-cultured hippocampal astrocytes.
متن کاملBiological actions of lipoic acid associated with sulfane sulfur metabolism.
This work aimed to investigate the effect of lipoic acid (LA) on sulfane sulfur (S(*)) level and rhodanese activity in rat tissues. In vitro studies conduced so far have indicated that dihydrolipoic acid serves as an S(*) acceptor in the rhodanese-catalyzed S(*) transfer. This study revealed a significant increase in S(*) level and rhodanese activity in the heart, liver and kidney homogenates f...
متن کاملPreparation of Sulfur Mortar from Modified Sulfur
Mixtures of mineral aggregate and modified sulfur, wherein the modified sulfur functions as a binder, are termed sulfur concretes or sulfur mortars depending on the form of the mineral aggregate. Molten sulfur reacted with olefinic additive, at 130-140 ºC, and then mixed with preheated filler and aggregates. Sulfur mortar samples were prepared by mixing 32 % molten sulfur, 10 % filler and 5...
متن کاملElemental sulfur coarsening kinetics
BACKGROUND Elemental sulfur exists is a variety of forms in natural systems, from dissolved forms (noted as S8(diss) or in water as S8(aq)) to bulk elemental sulfur (most stable as α-S8). Elemental sulfur can form via several biotic and abiotic processes, many beginning with small sulfur oxide or polysulfidic sulfur molecules that coarsen into S8 rings that then coalesce into larger forms: [For...
متن کاملInvolvement of intermediate sulfur species in biological reduction of elemental sulfur under acidic, hydrothermal conditions.
The thermoacidophile and obligate elemental sulfur (S(8)(0))-reducing anaerobe Acidilobus sulfurireducens 18D70 does not associate with bulk solid-phase sulfur during S(8)(0)-dependent batch culture growth. Cyclic voltammetry indicated the production of hydrogen sulfide (H(2)S) as well as polysulfides after 1 day of batch growth of the organism at pH 3.0 and 81°C. The production of polysulfide ...
